On December 10th, at 12 pm, IRFS and the Human Rights Club will hold a roundtable at the IRFS press center to mark Human Rights Day.

Today (8 December) the Baku Appeals Court held a closed hearing on the appeal filed by the imprisoned editor-in-chief of Khural newspaper, Avaz Zeynalli. Zeynalli’s lawyer Elchin Sadigov reported that the appeal was filed against Nasimi District Court’s December 1, 2011 decision to continue Zeynalli’s pre-trial detention. Judge Vagif Mursagulov presided over the hearing. 

On December 7th, Khural newspaper’s current editor-in-chief, Nasiraddin Khoja, and Azadlig newspaper employee, Anar Mahmudoglu, were invited to the US Embassy to meet with US Press Secretary Keith Bean.

The chairman of the Azerbaijan Youth Translators Association, Ismayil Jabrayilov, announced the creation of the first code of ethics for translators in Azerbaijan.

On December 8, at 12pm, at the IRFS press center, the Azerbaijan Youth Translators Association will present the first Code of Ethics prepared for translators operating in Azerbaijan, Daily Azeri Press Review project and an open-ended Civil Society Support Project.

Today lawyer Yaver Shahbazov from the Legal Education Society informed IRFS that their president, Intigam Aliyev, was detained at Istanbul Airport.

There has been an unofficial ban placed on the publication of ASI newspaper, which is being published by the employees of the now defunct Khural newspaper, whose editor-in-chief is in prison, reported employees.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs will guarantee the security of the family of the late journalist and writer Rafig Tagi, who was stabbed by an unknown assailant on November 19th, and later died in the hospital under mysterious circumstances. 

On December 6th, at 12:54, Azadlig newpaper columnist Anar Mahmudoglu and Khural newspaper‘s current editor-in-chief Nuraddin Khoja received anonymous threatening phone calls from the number 012 – 514-28-67.  The unknown person threatened to kill Mahmudoglu and his children, according to information at xural.com website.
