Today, 8 July, in the Azerbaijan Human Rights House, Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Youth Organization conducted an event regarding the anniversary of the arrest of youth bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade.

On 13 July, at noon, in the press centre of the Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety (IRFS), a presentation will be held for the project “Public initiatives on providing prisoners’ rights in order for them to be freed earlier” with support of the International Bridges to Justice. The event is organized by 2010 JusticeMakers Fellow Jafarov Rasul.

The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety condemns the verdict to sentence the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers, Eynulla Fatullayev to two years and six months in prison, and believes that this verdict was politically motivated and dictated by the Azerbaijani government.

Today, 6 July, in the Garadag District Court, Judge Ismayil Khalilov announced the verdict on the criminal case against the Editor-in-Chief of Gundelik Azerbaijan and Realniy Azerbaijan newspapers, Eynulla Fatullayev.

“Mediaforum” website employee Erkin Khalilov’s photo-camera, which was confiscated by civil clothed policemen on 3 July, at a protest carried out by Musavat Party and “Union for the Sake of Democracy” in front of Elmlar Akademiyasi Metro Station, has been returned to him.

The Institute for Reporters` Freedom and Safety regrets that the lawsuit of Presidential Administration Head Ramiz Mehdiyev against Khural newspaper was fulfilled, and deems this decision as pressure against independent media. 

The Institute for Reporters’ Freedom and Safety regrets that the appeal of journalist Elmin Badalov was not fulfilled and evaluates this decision as unfounded.
