VERONICA KATICK VISITS NOVRUZALI MAMMADOV |

 Special Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to Azerbaijan Veronica Katick along with Justice Ministry representative visited “Tolishi Sado” newspaper editor-in-chief Novruzali Mammadov in the Penitentiary Services’ Central Hospital, according to the Defense Committee for N.Mammadov’s rights. The hospital leadership and doctors examining N.Mammadov evaluated his health as medium-severe. To Veronica Katick’s suggestion to invite an adviser expert-physician via the Council of Europe in connection with N.Mammadov’s health, the prison leadership said that Azerbaijan’s legislation does not permit this.
Then Veronica Katick visited N.Mammadov’s family and expressed concern about his health emphasizing that the Council of Europe is concerned regarding Mammadov’s arrest.
On 28 July N.Mammadov was transferred to the Penitentiary Services’ Central Hospital from strict regime prison #15.
Novruzali Mammadov was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment under article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan Republic.
