On November 10th, the Supreme Court of Nakhcivan Autonomous Republic heard an appeal  filed against Shahur Regional Court’s decision on IRFS correspondent to Nakhchivan Hekimeldostu Mehdiyev’s electricity appeal.

Judge Fakhraddin Mammadov presided over the hearing.  The judge  upheld the original decision. Mehdiyev said that he will file an appeal against the decision, based on his claim that the judge’s decision was biased and unfair.  
On September 22th, Sharur Regional Court, under Judge Huseyn Zulfugarov, issued a 1000 AZN fine for Mehdiyev.  He was charged with diverting electricity supplies.
On July 15th, the local authorities cut off the electricity supply to Mehdiyev’s house under the pretext of its illegal use in his nearby carwash. However, according to Mehdiyev, he has paid all his bills and has all the receipts. They lived without electricity for 24 days. According to Mehdiyev, the pressures on him started at the beginning of July after he accompanied journalist Michael Ludwig of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung during his trip to Nakhchivan, despite the attempts by local authorities to prevent the German reporter from entering.
